Requirements to obtain State Contractors License

Regulated by the Tennessee Board for Licensing Contractors:

  • Form a legal entity: Register an LLC or Inc. with the Tennessee Secretary of State.
  • Identify a Qualifying Party for required exams per classification.
  • Exams must be passed prior to submitting your application.
  • Reviewed or Audited Financial Statements are required in the name of the entity seeking licensing.
  • The company must request a Monetary Limit to licensing.
  • Experience requirements must be satisfied and vary per classification.
  • The Qualifying Party must submit a copy of his or her government-issued identification and social security number.
  • Proof of insurance required.
  • Tennessee has reciprocity agreements with multiple states specific to the classification(s) requested.
